Hypnosis is a very controversial healing modality because people are generally in fear of having someone access their mind. Feelings of fear and vulnerability are common and should not be ignored; however, I believe Hypnosis along with Neuro-Linguistic-Programming (NLP) and EFT are taking their place in the world with respect to the vast amount of issues they address and their ability to create “Positive Change”.
For several years, I was privileged to work with one of the United State’s most educated and gifted practitioners of Hypnotherapy and NLP so I can personally attest to each modalities ability to generate significant shifts in realigning an individual’s behavior patterns.
Through his guidance I was able to identify and understand my own unrecognized and unresolved emotional issues. Unknowingly, these issues kept me from achieving the life I said that I wanted but seemed to never be able to experience. I came to understand that Hypnosis is like a book of matches and one must be careful who possesses the matches. Normally it is the hypnotist that gives this healing technique a bad name in the public’s view and not the purity and unbelievable results generated the modality itself.
I will sometimes recommend a hypnosis technique or practitioner because I am comfortable with the practices and viewpoints of the hypnotist or the company involved in particular subliminal products (which by the way I use to this day!). I do not support hypnosis that is used to seduce people, control parlor games or solely based upon entertainment purposes. Although these situations maintain a place in the world for like minded people I see little value in their ability to truly help people get rid of the wounds impeding their personal growth.
In addition, you should know States vary on their requirements for hypnosis in regards to titles that may be used and certificates that are needed. Many people call themselves hypnotherapists even though they are not officially recognized as such by the state in which they practice. This is not to mean a general hypnotist does not have value as I work with them all of the time. It simply means that to be a hypnotherapist one must have a degree in psychiatry or any of the related mental “therapy” fields.
In many cases you will find that a hypnotherapist is actually a therapist or psychologist or psychiatrist that simply uses “hypnotism” as one of the many modalities they use to help their patients. A hypnotist by most state statues cannot perform certain task legally that a hypnotherapist can; so many hypnotists use that title to have more options in their work.
Please check state by state to find out the criteria and licensing needed. Also, I am here to promote hypnosis in general and many of my recommendations will be with hypnotists for quick and positive changes as opposed to therapists who merely use hypnosis in their practices. I am not opposed to therapists in general rather that I am here to promote what I have experienced firsthand. I wish to share this modality with you through the works and writings and products of others in the field of hypnosis that I believe to be in their integrity and have high standards. However, you must check in to all of these things on your own. You are the best judge of what you need and what you will feel comfortable. Knowledge will always be power we just need to use the power in a well intended way.
